Parampara Tablas by Sushil Das and Master Bablu of Calcutta, India

 

Sushil DasSushil Das has a long history in the field of making Tablas, he started when he was only 7 years old! In his childhood he was priveledged to have worked and served some of the great Tabla makers in India and in turn learned their most precious techniques. Instrument makers in general are reluctant to share their secrets with younger generations but due to his talent and dedicated service he has had great success.  

    Now at the age of 41, Sushil has perfected his craft, especially in the making of the Gab and also in performing the jawari which is crucial to the final sound. He has worked successfully with great masters such as Ustad Sabir Khan, Ustad Safad Ahemed Khan of Delhi, Ustad Akram Khan, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Kumar Bose, Bikram Ghosh, Subhankar Banerjee, Tanmoy Bose, Gouri Sankar and many others.


Master Bablu  (in back in orange shirt)....Born in Ranaghat (75 kilometers away from Calcutta), a place known as a source for great tabla makers and also traditionally known for producing many varieties of fine leather based instruments. For the past 75
years many great makers have come from Ranaghat and a a lot of them have ended up in Calcutta where there are more opportunities.
Master Bablu is very popular in Calcutta and the
surrounding area. With the help of some of the great tabla players he has developed his skill to the highest degree.
His specialty is the achievement of a very sharp tone of any scale tabla, particularly tablas used for vocal accompaniment.

All of our tablas from Parampara are monitored by Gourisankar, and he also does the final jawari before they are sent to our shop. These are the same tablas as played by him!
