S.P. Bhattacharyya
Shankar Bhattacharyya has been an integral part of
the Indian Classical Music scene in the US for quite some time,
particularly in the Austin, Texas and surrounding areas. Apart from
organizing concerts and hosting musicians he is also a highly
accomplished and versatile musician and we are honored to have his bio
here and highly recommend him!

Shankar
P. Bhattacharyya was born in 1946 and had initial training in Indian
classical music from the age of 10 when he began playing the Hawaiian guitar
as a student of Gopal Singh of Delhi. In 1975 he began learning the Sarode
and in 1982 he became a disciple of Sarode Maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. He
has given concert performances and lecture demonstrations on Indian
classical music in the US, UK, France, Switzerland, Brazil and India. He
has created and performed with a fusion music band called "The Paisley
Connection" and has also published articles on the origins of the Sarode, of
the Sitar, the history of the Senia music gharana of North India and a
biography of the legendary Indian musician Baba Allaudin Khan.
Dr. Bhattacharyya is a Professor of Electrical
Engineering at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA and is a
world renowned researcher in the field of Control Theory in which he has
authored four books and more than 200 papers. He also serves as a Faculty
Advisor to the Indian Classical Music Society, SPICMACAY, at Texas A&M
