Sanjay Sharma and Rikhi Ram instruments

Pandit Rikhi RamRikhi Ram’s Music is the achievement of Sanjay Sharma and is deeply rooted in a family tradition that spans 3 generations and over 90 years.

Rikhi Ram instruments were originated by the Late Pandit Rikhi Ram Sharma who, with his great knowledge and understanding,    had crafted instruments for almost all of the great maestros of Indian classical music of his time. Originally from Lahore, Pakistan, Panditji had always strived to achieve the highest level of perfection in his art through designing, crafting, and researching. An added enhancement to his technical skills was his ability to understand musical knowledge to the minute detail.

He acquired his technical training from Ustad Sher Muhammed and his son Ustad Ramzan Khan, both from Lahore, Pakistan. To widen his vision not only as a maker but a musician also, he acquired vocal training from a great musician of Lahore, Ustad Abdul Harim Poonchwale and had close association with legendary Maestros such as Pandit Omkarnath Thakur, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Amir Khan.

Sanjay Sharma

Keeping to the same tradition and dedication to the art, this work has and is being carried on by the grandson of Pandit Rikhi Ram Sharma, Sanjay Sharma. Sanjay has already been given high acclaim for his innovative designs and technical skills developed while working with his Father and Guru, Pandit Bishan Das Sharma for the past 15 years. Sanjay has made and repaired instruments for great Maestros such as Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, and Pt. Jasraj, and many others. In addition he has traveled worldwide in order to present this traditional art form on a global level through lecture-demonstrations which have been given wide acclaim. Sponsors of these events have been notable groups such as ICCR, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Asian Music Circuit, and OM Music Circle USA.

In order to further pursue his goal with the distinct vision of following in the footsteps of his Grandfather, Sanjay founded his own shop, Rikhi Ram’s Instruments in New Delhi. He has been providing the highest quality professional instruments and service to many of the top musicians in India.  An added dimension to his instruments are the use of high precision tools by which he has proven that old tradition and modern innovation can go hand in hand without compromising the integrity of this traditional art form of India.

Rikhi Ram’s Music has always served and is committed to providing the finest quality and value for the money, and in offering instruments made with a high level of art expertise which is now rare, if not impossible, to find elsewhere.
