Special Lucknow Peacock Style Sitar
Always
wanting to provide a variety of quality sitars for our customers, we
introduce another Sitars Etc. offering: The MKS Lucknow Peacock Sitar. The MKS line of sitars is an
affordable well constructed line of instruments made by a well known Kolkata
manufacturer. We feel that giving our customers choices of makes and models
allows them to select the sitar of their choice.
The MKS Lucknow Peacock is carved in the
traditional intricate styling of Lucknow India. Lucknow is an area in
Northeastern India that is known for it's rich cultural traditions and
complex artistry. We are very pleased to offer their distinct styling in
flawless detail on this Special MKS Lucknow Peacock tun sitar.
The overall carving theme centers around carved peacocks.
We asked Monoj Kumar Sardarji to make a very special sitar. This
sitar has an semi closed jawari, Kharaj Pancham tuning,
uniquely and richly decorated in the Lucknow style at an affordable price.
The sympathetic string response is excellent and the sound is that certain
sweet sound only available on MKS sitars.
About this new special sitar,
according to Monoj Kumar Sardarji himself, he says, "The
Workmanship and supervision is better than any other type of sitar".
Of the jawari on both of this sitar, he says, "My brother Sri Ashok Sardar does the Jawari, and
also plays sitar. He has been doing jawari for the last 22 years."
The Monoj Kumar Sardar and Bros. special Lucknow Peacock concert model sitar is made of the finest
available tun wood and carved in
the traditional intricate styling of Lucknow India. Lucknow is an area in
Northeastern India that is known for it's rich cultural traditions and
complex artistry. We
are very pleased to offer their distinct styling in flawless detail on
our Lucknow Peacock tun sitar.
We lighten these two pictures so you could see
the detail. The sitar is darker.
And as with all our
other sitars, very nice inlay and rich, maroon penwork carefully done
by expert craftsmen. The penwork compliments
the deep red wood tones of the instrument. The French polish finish, which is exceptionally done,
rounds out this exceptional sitar.
The shine is mirror like.
Nicely carved Rosewood pegs, carefully
fitted and chalked with deer horn centerpieces and deer horn tuning beads. Also,
at the top of the neck there is a special emphasis on the inlay creating
a beautiful niche. The label clearly states the name of this
well known sitar maker.
The top tumba is equally as decorated
as the tabli and perfectly fitted to the sitar. These sitars made for
Sitars Etc. by MKS have only
natural gourds for the top! These now come with extra large
natural gourds!
The jawari is
semi-closed and professionally
done by
Sri Ashok Sardar, who has been doing
jawari for the last 20 years.
The string layout is Kharaj
Pancham style. All frets finely tuned and fitted in India and double
checked at our shop before shipping! Meend (bending) of 5 to 6
notes is easily accomplished.
A fiberglass case
is available as well as a leatherette case with the MKS Sitar.
You can also get with a fiberglass upper tumba
carrying case that can attach to the sitar fiberglass case.
Fiberglass cases are available in black. Leatherette cases are available
in brown and black. If we
are out of stock and you pre-order then you have the option to choose
your case color. Also, this MKS sitars come with
accessories that
include: a sitar instruction
book, a
matching heavy cotton or fabric cover, an oil box, 3 mizrabs, 1
Main and 1 tarab peg, fret thread, a narka, a tarab tool and a set of extra strings!
All MKS sitars are monitored during the entire building process and
fine-tuned by expert musicians in India under the supervision on Sri Monoj
Kumar Sardar himself, before being air-shipped to our shop. According
to Monoj Kumar Sardarji himself, he says, "The
